Tech Nitrox and Cave Decompression Diver

Course Description

The NSS-CDS Tech Nitrox and Cave Decompression course is intended to train divers in decompression strategies, emergency management, and proper procedures to utilizing EAN-21 through 100% oxygen while conducting cave dives requiring staged decompression.

What you can expect to learn

Graduates will be qualified to conduct decompression dives in the cave environment utilizing 50% to 100% oxygen to accelerate decompression provided:

  • the diving activities approximate those of training,
  • the area of activities approximate those of training, and
  • the environmental conditions approximate those of training.

Course Equipment Requirements

  • Each diver must wear full cave diving equipment (backmount doubles or sidemount) with the addition of the following:
    • Oxygen decompression cylinder clearly labeled “Oxygen 6” or “Oxygen 20” on each side of the tank in approximately 2-inch (5 cm) lettering. The daily analysis sticker, labeled with the date, initials of the diver who analyzed the cylinder, fill pressure, and fraction of oxygen to one decimal place should be placed where the diver can easily read It when performing a gas switch.
    • One decompression regulator and SPG rated for oxygen service.
    • Access to an oxygen analyzer which may be supplied by the instructor.

Course Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 18.
  • Minimum certification of NSS-CDS Nitrox Diver or equivalent.

How long will this take?

This course must be conducted over a minimum of 2 days and include 4 cave dives. If combined with the NSS-CDS Apprentice Cave Dive, DPV Cave, or Stage Cave Diver courses, only 2 additional dives must be completed, but a minimum of 4 decompression dives must be executed throughout the entirety of the training.
