Water Quality Grant Application

Very little is known about the water quality coming from the various conduits within the North Florida cave systems. Previous research suggests that that there is differing water qualities coming from separate conduits located within each cave system. Utilizing a cost effective and unique design, we have put together a package of basic sensors that will record water quality parameters intended to be carried by a diver on all future data collection dives as a part of this project. We have obtained the support of the Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD), a local government organization, and are working with them to identify areas within the various cave systems located within their jurisdiction that necessitate further research by them on what environmental changes are occurring. SRWMD will also be providing us with calibration solutions to ensure that the data we collect is accurate.

The NSS-CDS Conservation Committee has applied for a grant from the NSS to fund these sensors.
